Wood paneling is both an aesthetic and functional cladding solution for interiors. It consists of clad panels applied directly to a wood or metal frame and vertical battens. These elements can also be chosen to provide thermal and acoustic insulation or to increase wall thickness.

Panels are usually mounted with nails or screws; adhesive can be used for a more rigid structure. The joining methods and the grain patterns of the wood define the character of the wall. Solid wood boards with butt-cut, tongue-and-groove or shiplap edges can also be used indoors.
